The Node network is supporting EU supercomputing system to foster sustainable development and public good
Industry is in permanent evolution so the R&D sector, looking for new technologies, materials and processes to offer better products and goods for citizens. All key industries have the need to invest a lot of energy, time and economic and human resources to the research of innovation on their fields.
In many cases, this requires to allocate a huge sum of money into tests for materials resistance, car-crash, food security, airplane design…. The list is long and it involves all industrial sectors.
To save time and money, and so to leverage the cost of research, companies do computer simulations to carry out their tests. As an example: instead of crashing a 20.000 € car to analyse the effectiveness of airbag and belt security system, the company perform a simulation of the accident, that costs only 15% of destroying a car.
These simulations are becoming more complex, as the accuracy of its results is becoming more and more important and evolved. Therefore, the performance of the computers is the key to guarantee the maintenance and evolution of numerical simulations and so the industry as a whole.
This is why Supercomputers play a key role on industry expansion, because they act as their fuel. They provide the calculation capacity to perform the analysis and research of new technical solutions to be applied to a wide range of industrial sectors, from cellphone to airplane, from pharmacy to car production.
The Node and its network support the awareness raising of the digital revolution, including the key role EU supercomputing plays in public welfare to improve citizens’ lives. To that end, the Node has been supporting several events by promoting the importance of this topic towards society at large, the role of public-private partnerships and the cooperation among scientists, policy-makers and industry.
